Hunting Sheep with Alaska Big Game Safaris
We'll be guiding and hunting sheep in the central Alaska Range. We've had great success in the past hunting this area. It's fairly rugged terrain and holds some good mature rams. My aim is to give our hunters the chance at harvesting a ram in the 36" or better range.
We’ll access the area by Supercub, utilizing remote strips, ridge tops and gravel bars in the valley floors. Typically we’d set a base camp up at the point of drop off and head out from there with a spike camp. This allows us to get out there where the big ones are hanging and get the job done.
You can figure the weather can and will change at any time. Temperatures can range from 20 to 70 degrees. Alaska gets a lot of lighting strikes associated with the summer thunderstorms, sometimes visibility can be a problem due to smoke from the area wildfires. Overall, this doesn’t really affect the hunting - it’s just a fact of interior Alaska in the summer.
Being in good physical condition upon your arrival is very important. You don’t need to be a marathoner to hunt with us. We take it day by day. If you have a good attitude and you’re willing and able to possibly climb a couple thousand feet a day, you’ll be fine. Our job is not to hike you into the ground.
We want to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable hunt. Alaska Big Game Safaris truly believes it’ll be one of the most rewarding hunts you’ll ever have. |
